A handful of my clients still color their hair at home, almost always due to a financial situation. However, the differences between a professional job and a home job are huge! Every single client who has tried in salon color just once, has completely converted and no longer colors their hair at home!
I have read a lot of interesting things online in regards to opinions of home coloring, and yes there is a right way and a wrong way to go about doing it yourself, however be wary of the random tips you can find online in regards to home hair coloring!
I prefer to be honest with my clients, and try to help them get the best at home dye-job possible rather than pressure them to switch. Here are some of the tips that I share with my clients whose budget does not allow them to switch to professional coloring:

Customer Service
A couple of weeks ago, we decided to upgrade our AT&T DSL service, to the fastest package. A seemingly simple request, that consequently led to 22 phone calls, 8.5 hours on the phone with "customer service", a day missed of work, and about 13 days of waiting for service!
It all started with a very short phone call to a sales rep named Monique. She was seemingly helpful and set me up with the fastest DSL plan that AT&T had available. I was supposed to notice the new speeds in two days......

Root Boosters
With all the options out there for added volume, its hard to figure out which ones work best without trying them all! I have had the opportunity to try so many, so here are some of my favorites!
Logics - Full Scale Root Finisher
By far my favorite root booster at the moment. You can use it before blow drying or afterwards for an extra boost. If your hair is getting a bit flat at the end of the day you can use it to touch up a bit before going out for the night.
Redken - Guts
Is limited in that it can really only be used before blowdrying. But it can get some great volume! You can use it all over for added volume.
Sexy Hair Concepts - What A Tease
Backcomb in a bottle! Lives up to its name. The only set back is if you don't use it frequently the nozzle gets jammed! It *is* a tease when you reach for it only to find out it won't spray anymore!
In a pinch and need some extra volume? After your hair is dry and styled, spray a bit of hairspray on your finger tips and work it into the scalp area!
What is your favorite root boosting product?
